Midwifing Through the Pandemic

2020 has demonstrated the essential nature of midwifery care more than ever. As the COVID-19 pandemic has raged on, the number of pregnant people seeking out-of-hospital support has continued to climb. We can attest that this has certainly been true for Lifecycle WomanCare.

It is not the celebration that we had planned for The International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, but midwives and nurses have been heralded for their unique role during the pandemic. People are getting pregnant, babies are being born, and now it’s all happening under the lens of a deadly disease. With so much uncertainty in our world, it is no wonder people are seeking out more personalized support and care. Midwives and nurses serve as an anchor in these unsettled seas.

Like many other midwifery practices, we initially heard from clients who were interested in transferring from hospital-based care to birth center care. The pandemic is now prompting clients to think more long-term and re-examine their healthcare and birthing choices. We are already booking birth clients well into 2021 and are fielding an increased number of calls from clients interested in midwifery-centered gynecological care.

With one month still remaining in 2020, LWC’s calendar for 2021 is rapidly filling up. If you are interested in making an appointment, don’t delay. Give us a call at 610.525.6086 to schedule.
