at Lifecycle WomanCare in Bryn Mawr

Yoga for Labor and Birth is open to everyone, both LWC and non-LWC clients. Please feel free to spread the word!

In this workshop you will learn practical tools to support your physical and emotional comfort throughout labor. There will be time to reflect on and discuss how you feel and act in times of discomfort so that you can explore the comfort measures that may work best for you. We will also discuss how particular comfort measures may or may not fit with your labor preferences.

Topics covered:

  • Posture, positioning, and movement
  • Breath and its relationship to pain
  • Hands-on support from a birth partner – counter-pressure and massage
  • Verbal encouragement, affirmation, and mantra

You will learn how to use each of these tools as a means to ease both body and mind. We will also discuss how these simple comfort measures can contribute to the progression of your labor, and minimize the amount of time you may spend in pain and overwhelm. While we will take the time discuss our concerns and fears surrounding labor and birth, there will be a very strong emphasis on creating a loving and empowered experience!

This workshop is inclusive of all of those expecting a new baby whether single, in a partnership, LGBT+, planning a medicated or un-medicated labor, experiencing a traditional or non-traditional pregnancy, surrogacy, or planned adoption. Your partner, your friend/family member who may be supporting your labor, and/or your doula is welcome and encouraged to join you for this learning experience.

Please bring one yoga mat, a long wide scarf or baby wrap, and a pen if you would like to take notes.

“Having delivered twice at The Birth Center at LWC, I couldn’t be happier with my experiences. I felt so cared for and safe there. Welcoming, comforting, trustworthy—the combination of the homey feel I wanted with professional, experienced midwives and nurses let me relax, knowing I was in good hands. The midwives, always there when we needed them, also seemed to know just when to give us space. When pushing became difficult during my second birth, the midwife quickly assessed the situation and helped me get things back on track. I can’t imagine birthing anywhere else.”

Their extensive prenatal and postpartum yoga training under Lara Kohn Thompson and Beth Donnelly Caban at Integral Yoga Institute in NYC has deeply influenced the entirety of their work. Jenna believes that people who are in the midst of life transitions are especially receptive to self-awareness practices – such as yoga – and has seen firsthand many times the positive impacts of breath awareness and mindful movement on their doula clients.
