This class, required for first-time parents planning a hospital birth, will be held on a Saturday or Sunday from 9am to 4pm. This class is also available to clients planning to give birth at The Birth Center who cannot attend the Preparation for Childbirth series due to scheduling conflicts or a one hour (or greater) commute to LWC. Class content is similar to the four-week series, in a condensed format.
This class covers the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth, pain coping strategies, unexpected outcomes, and birth technology. Immediate postpartum issues and newborn care will also be briefly discussed.
Classes incorporate mindfulness exercises, focused breathing, relaxation techniques, movement for labor, and partner support skills. The format combines lecture, discussion, hands-on demonstration, and student participation. Birth videos will be shown.
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. There will be a short break for lunch. You can either pack a lunch, or venture off campus to one of the many local eateries nearby. Be sure to pack drinks and snacks. We have a microwave and refrigerator for your convenience. Please bring your partner or a support person.
$240 per couple
Our One-Day Childbirth Preparation class is offered on the first Saturday of the month to LWC clients exclusively. A Sunday class will be offered to non-LWC clients as space permits. Please call for details!
“Having delivered twice at The Birth Center at LWC, I couldn’t be happier with my experiences. I felt so cared for and safe there. Welcoming, comforting, trustworthy—the combination of the homey feel I wanted with professional, experienced midwives and nurses let me relax, knowing I was in good hands. The midwives, always there when we needed them, also seemed to know just when to give us space. When pushing became difficult during my second birth, the midwife quickly assessed the situation and helped me get things back on track. I can’t imagine birthing anywhere else.”
