Designed for children ages 3-6, and their caregivers, the Sibling Celebration Class celebrates families welcoming a new baby.
This one-time, 90-minute class promotes healthy sibling dynamics through story time, sensory activities, and parent discussion.
An optional viewing of Penny Simkin’s 11-minute film for children, “There’s a Baby,” shows a child’s joy and excitement as she learns about what a baby can do before birth, sees her baby sister being born (with tasteful filming), greets her with a song and a kiss, and shows us a bit about life with a new baby.
There will also be an opportunity to diaper, dress, and swaddle a baby doll, and to explore a birthing and breastfeeding doll, “Mama Doll,” who can give birth vaginally or by cesarean. A tour of one of the birth suites (if available), kitchen, living room, and garden will also be included.
Note: Although this class is designed for 3-6 year olds, this is not a hard and fast rule. You know your child best. If your 2 1/2 year old can sit through a 90-minute class as described above, we will honor your decision to register him/her. If you believe your 7 year old would still benefit from a class like this, we would be happy to welcome him/her.
$40 for one child. $20 for each additional child.
At this time, our Sibling Celebration class is only offered to LWC clients and their families.
“Having delivered twice at The Birth Center at LWC, I couldn’t be happier with my experiences. I felt so cared for and safe there. Welcoming, comforting, trustworthy—the combination of the homey feel I wanted with professional, experienced midwives and nurses let me relax, knowing I was in good hands. The midwives, always there when we needed them, also seemed to know just when to give us space. When pushing became difficult during my second birth, the midwife quickly assessed the situation and helped me get things back on track. I can’t imagine birthing anywhere else.”
