The Birth Story of LWC Nurse Extraordinaire, Robin

All of our birth stories are special, but this one is especially so as comes from one of our own. We give you…. the birth story of LWC nurse extraordinaire Robin Hewlett.

“When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I knew I wanted midwifery care and that I would birth out of hospital. Going about finding a midwife, though,—someone I connected with and felt totally confident in on an individual level—seemed like a daunting task.

When I found The Birth Center, it was a relief to know that I wouldn’t have to search for my ‘soul mate’ of a midwife. I could trust that someone completely capable, and with a generally aligned attitude toward birth, would be there for me when the time came. And so they were! My experience of birth was very empowering. The team attending my birth let me do my own thing. When they did provide guidance, it was understated and offered in just the right moment.

When I became pregnant with my second daughter, I knew I could count on The Birth Center to be there for us again… My second birth was so special because it was exactly two years to the day after my first. One of my favorite memories is my older daughter coming to meet her new baby sister in the green room and celebrating their shared birthday with cake!

I’ve since joined the nursing staff, and what I continue to appreciate most about LWC/TBC is that families can depend on us to be here for them when they need us. They can depend on us to provide all the care or the bit of quiet space they need to facilitate a birth that is safe first and foremost, but also (hopefully!) empowering for the birthing person and inclusive of the loved ones who accompany them.”
